Page 2 Girls DT projects - January - Karyn Pawsons

I would like to say firstly, thank you again Tracey and Julie and everyone at Pages 2 Scrap for the opportunity to continue as a DT member for a further 6 months. It is a great honour to be able to work with some fantastic product and of course the girls at the store, Tracey, Julie and Heidi.

This month we were sent the same pack to work with. It will be interesting to see how similar and how different we all make our projects this month.

I have had a great time working with the Carta Bella range this month.
The proof is in the projects - 4 layouts and 3 OTP's :)

I will begin with the layouts.
My first layout was an 8x8 of my daughter Rhyallie and her favourite tutu dress.
The theme of this kit is Valentines - and all things to do with LOVE. So, I ran with the LOVE theme and showcased the papers in this layout by hand cutting all the hearts - yes I know, mad, but I didn't have a punch.......then I ran some ink around the edges of the hearts (Versa Magic Jumbo Java ink). Some of the hearts I have distressed with my fingers, by pulling and scrunching the edges.
In this layout, I have scattered the hearts on the left side of the page after I ran the Sew Easy around the edges for a bit of definition. I have become a bit of a fan of instagram recently and used a photo that I took at Rosehill Races in December last year. Along with the hearts, I added some Twiddleybitz mirror hearts that I have had in my stash for some time........just for a bit of interest. The title of this layout is "LOVE her tutu dress"

Layout 2 is my favourite size as you know, 8.5x11cm. It really is an awesome size to work with :)
This page is titled IN DADDYS ARMS........again it is using an instagram pic I took of Rhyallie and Michael at a wedding we attended in September last year. It was on a boat on Sydney Harbour and it turned a little cool unexpectedly so Rhyallie chose Daddys Arms to keep her warm. You gotta love the look on his face in the first photo though - it was priceless. I chose to keep this one pretty simple in design, so that the splatters in the background came through. In our kit we were given some pretty Prima "Say it with Pearls" embellishments. I have used two on this layout to tie in with the sparkle in the Prima flowers (that are available in store). The background is actually 3-4 layers - firstly I used a WOW template as a background with some Kaiser egg shell paint. Then I sprayed the paint with Mister Hueys Opaque White and October Afternoons Sprinklers (Holiday Style - Santa's Hat  and Tinsel). I added some small red bling for a bit of interest and to tie the red together. On the outside edge of this layout, I decided to have a bit of fun with a cool little tool that pierces the paper like you are sewing.

Next layout is titled SWeeT UNCONDITIONAL...........LoVe
This photo was taken by my friend Renee when she was looking after Rhyallie for us during the holidays. We were all at our holiday cabin in Ulladulla and Renee took the girls to the beach. Rhyallie wrote this note in the sand and luckily for me, she photographed it! This layout is very simple....I just made a simple double ended flag and placed the photo in the middle and added the Prima "Say it with Pearls" embellishments. I then used some of the stickers from the sheet on the top and bottom. And of course, added some more Prima Flowers!

My 12x12 layout is of my second son and his gorgeous girlfriend - Maddy. This layout didn't need a title other than the sticker from the sheet - "will you be my valentine?"
I must admit here, that I did turn to a magazine for some inspiration for this layout as I was having a MOJO moment! So once I had the idea, it just all came together. I made flags from the sheets that I used for the 8.5x11cm. Again I used the same Prima Flowers to embellish the photo. I added a Websters Page pin in pink for a bit of sparkle.

Now on with the OTP's........
The first one is a little album I picked up while we were in Ulladulla from a kitchen shop. It was just screaming to be used in this manor :)
Simply, it was just a matter of cutting out a background for each pocket. I used every single sheet in the 6x6 pad that was in our kit.
On the plain coloured pages, I decided to write little Love Notes/Poems/Sayings on them throughout the book. I tried to keep each page with a picture on it, as simple as possible. As you will see, the most I did is distressing some photos as the pages were too small for anything fancier.
The cover was simply just using the stickers from the pack and some of the Prima Flowers and some wonderful pearl "vine" I picked up in store last weekend.

The next OTP is a tribute to my hubby Michael.
Sticking with the LOVE and VALENTINE theme, I have used the keys in an unusual way. I bought a pack of Kaiser Wood Florishes in store last weekend and proceeded to cover each key in a different patterened paper. While I was having a little look around, I came across some Tim Holtz metal keys so I bought them to add to this OTP. I had a wooden heart with twine on it that I covered with the pink striped paper and mounted an old photo of him and journalled around the edge and I have called it "You hold all my Keys".

Thanks for taking the time to have a look at my work this month.
Stay tuned for next months kit - a fabulous Basic Grey kit - I am very excited!!
Until next month stay creative!

Page 2 Girls DT projects - February - Leonie Waldron

It's the season of love at Pages 2 Scrap, and look at this gorgeous collection from Carta Bella that I got to play with this month. It's called Devoted and it's so soft and pretty, I love the pops of baby blue mixed with the pink and red. And Carta Bella papers are such great quality; the texture is really nice to work with.

Here's what I've created this month; why not pop in to the store to check out the inspiration wall up close, and stock up on Valentines Day supplies while you're there!

The little ribbon flowers were cut from some lovely organza rose ribbon available from Pages to Scrap.

Next up  :)  Like our hairy moustaches? I was looking for lovey-dovey pics from way back when Richard and I met, and came across this little gem, I had to scrap it!

This collection is so versatile; great for funky modern style layouts but refined enough for traditional or more classic layouts too. There's a lot of dimension in this one...

...some little flags cut from scraps, and pretty Prima Say It With Pearls to add a bit of sparkle. And lots of foam tape :)

This one is a bit more funky-style! A bit of texture paste and a Crafters Workshop template was used to make those little clouds there, and some doodling because I can't help myself :)

I've swiped a bit of bright blue paint as a base and used some white Mister Huey's to tone it down a little, then stitched the fussy cut tickets into little banners.

Aw, how cute are Holly and our pup Nyx!  :)

Last up, I thought a little jar would be a nice Valentines project... I've made a similar jar once before for my husband Richie, it contained a little rolled-up poem that I wrote for him (I fancy myself a bit of a poet sometimes LOL). The wee felt flower is from Basic Grey and I've used some bright yellow scraps along with the reds and greys of the Devoted collection to give it a contemporary feel.

Well, as you can see there's plenty of ways to work this lovely Valentines collection... if you're in the area, head on over to Pages to Scrap and check out all the new stuff in store!

Stay crafty!

Friday 19th April

7:00pm - 10:00pm

$100 (includes kit).

Come and make a small themed journal based on my popular "Graffiti of My Life" class. Your personal graffiti is the words, quotes, song lyrics, etc. that are meaningful to you. We'll be making free-flowing backgrounds, tipped-in inclusions, and confined collages to decorate our journals

Saturday 20th April

10:00am-1:00pm.

$100 (includes kit).

I love a good silhouette. The human form has so much meaning and expression! In this class we'll play with and explore silhouettes. I'll show you several techniques for creating silhouettes with success, and we will layer our silhouettes with paints and inks and words and textures.

Saturday 20th April

2:00pm - 5:00pm

$100 (includes kit).

Join me for an artsy exploration of Poetry in Motion. We'll use paints, inks, and stamps to create "moving" works of art. Expressive and free, we'll put colour and meaning in every layer. Words and images will combine to move us to greater artistic heights. Our journal will have actual moving parts, and we'll stamp and sketch to add personal imagery.

Saturday 20th April

7:00pm - 10:00pm.

$100 (includes kit).

Join me for a layering exploration. We will create a unique hand-bound journal that is layered with art and meaning. The binding is similar to a Jacob's Ladder. We'll use art techniques and colour and composition know-how to build Dina-style layers. Get ready to sketch, scrape, ink, scribble, paint, wash, print, and rub. We'll learn how to control layers, push them, and celebrate them! We'll use paper, cardboard, and other substrates to make our journals pulse with artistic coolness.

Sunday 21st April

10:00am - 4:00pm

$160 (includes kit).

Have you been curious about art journaling, but are not sure where to start? Come and play with me for an entire day! We'll explore what art journaling is and I will teach you techniques for creating fun and expressive pages. I'll also give you some tips for page topics and writing on your pages. No previous art experience is required. I'll show you how I get images onto my pages. We'll cover: painted backgrounds, gesso texture, masking and stenciling, layering, top texture, collage, drawing with the magic pencil, and journaling (what to write!). At the end of the day, we'll bind our journal pages into a book to take home.

We can't wait to see you there.

Page 2 Girls - DT Projects - February - Karen McLaughlin

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO  YOU ALL

I hope you have all had a  nice Christmas.  To kick off the New Year I have a few pages (and a card) to show you from the brand new collection from Carta Bella called Devoted.  It has soft pinks and blues and all the designs are so lovely and easy to work with.  The 6x6 paper pad (which is double sided) would be great to make cards with too - and not just Valentine cards.

So here is the first page.

With the next page I tried to be a bit minimalist.  I used some gesso on a Crafters Workshop template called Cherry Blossoms - such a lovely stencil and added a few bits of WOW chipboard.

I thought this collection was great for little babies - boy/girl.

And last but not least I just had to make a Valentine's card.

I hope you like this collection as much as I do.

Happy creating everyone.

Karen McLaughlin
